What to Expect in Therapy

In each session, we will explore different tools and skills to illuminate the significant characters in your story--your beliefs, feelings, thoughts, and actions. Once illuminated, you can then decide whether they help or hinder your progress. With my support and guidance, you can work towards more empowering relationships with these characters, and in turn, more empowering relationships with yourself and the world around you.

EFFICACY

The efficacy of this model of therapy relies on the real-life application of what you discover in the therapeutic process. For instance, someone may discover that they tend to hand their power over to a desire or expectation (e.g. "I am unable to take care of myself, I need/want someone else to save me") and they may realize that it is part of an old story they absorbed long ago. They may realize that the old story is only getting in the way of reaching more of their potential (e.g. waiting for someone to come fix their life/issues).

In this process of awareness, they may stumble upon a new story, one that is preferred, for example, "I am responsible for my actions, I can take care of myself by doing hard things." If someone has this awareness and puts in the work to live the different story, they will see change. It can take time to notice a change in the way you are seeing, feeling, and thinking about yourself and your life. Patience and self-compassion are essential ingredients in realizing healthy and long-lasting everyday changes.

In other words, applying what you discover in therapy to your life is up to you. I am here to help you feel safe and comfortable enough to explore the tricky, complex mind-body connections that affect the way you think about yourself and engage in your life.
